A fresh take of the classic. Good not great! I will review only what I ordered, the nasi lemak with ayam bakar and lime barley. The rice was beautifully prepared—nicely fluffy and grainy in texture with a noticeable fragrance, which I liked. The kacang and ikan bilis were perfectly fresh and crunchy. I found the sambal quite interesting; it leads with a sharp, tangy acidity that hits you first, followed by a mellow sweetness from the onions. It got the job done, even if it lacked a certain depth of intensity or in this umami. The Ayam Bakar was juicy and well-marinated, though I personally prefer much stronger notes of caramelised char to really elevate that smoky profile. The real differentiator here is the Nale sauce—a rich, savoury blast of coconut milk and spices. The addition of deep-fried shallots and the distinctive hint of green chilli cabe (sambal hijau) gave the sauce a vibrant, complex edge that was the highlight of the plate. The eggplant fries were good too. Crispy and not oily. The batter used is well spiced without going over the edge, such that I can still taste the eggplant flavour within. Lightly drizzled with the sweet black sauce, it is one of the highlights, for me. The lemon barley is refreshing, just sweet enough with hints of mints and, with chewy barley. A decent, modern take on a classic, especially if you enjoy a more tang-forward sambal and creamy sauces. The portions were generous, and filling. Service was fast, but can be better. I tried to catch the attention of the waiter by the door a few times with a wave, but it seem that although he looked our way, but did not see us. Atmosphere is chill and vibey.
Overall, it’s a pleasant place to dine, offering both indoor and outdoor seating. The environment is comfortable enough for a casual meal with family or friends. The food in general was fine and reasonably enjoyable. The nasi lemak rice, however, lacked the coconut fragrance that gives the dish its signature aroma — if that was stronger, it would have been much better. The sambal chilli was flavorful and paired nicely with the rice, and the chicken was tender and not dry. We also tried the Kambing Bakar with NALE sauce. The lamb was nicely grilled and well-seasoned, great for sharing. However, I found that the NALE sauce can get a bit heavy (gelat) if eaten in large amounts, so it’s best enjoyed in moderation. One thing that really puzzled me was the “pandan coconut” on the menu. I was expecting something infused with pandan flavour, but it turned out to be just a regular coconut — nothing special at all. It was rather amusing and slightly disappointing to see it marketed that way. Overall, a decent spot with friendly vibes and some good dishes, though there’s definitely room for improvement in execution and menu descriptions.

I visited NALE Restaurant at Mid Valley for the first time and had an amazing experience! Kudos to Daisy for her warm and attentive service. The Indomie Ayam Bakar was fantastic, featuring perfectly grilled chicken and flavorful noodles. The Nasi Lemak Beef Gulai was just as impressive, with aromatic rice, tender beef, and a sambal that balanced sweetness and tang beautifully. The outdoor seating offered a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant for a memorable dinner!

Been coming here for the past few years. Food has always been good. I personally like the gulai ayam bakar! Very flavourful and worth the price. Currypuff fans should try their currypuff as well — generous with filling and there’s egg in it!
